I've been coming to the Island for a few years now, and when I come to Ryde I come here. Michael, David and the staff are always friendly and welcoming, can and will accommodate extra requests like early arrival and leave luggage, late departure ditto, extra pillow and rubber mat for the shower so I don't slip. Rooms are always clean and comfortable - could possibly use a bit more hanging room - and the water is always hot in the shower.Michael's cooked breakfasts are excellent and I always bring some of David's homemade marmalade home. There's also the lovely cat Flossie who I adore and gets a mention in all my reviews. It's HER house btw, the people just run it! The only downsides for me are the steep hill from the town, the steps up to the front door: elderly knees, luggage hills and steps are not a happy mix. And the steepish stairs down to the breakfast room. As a listed building they can't have a lift. But a bonus is a bus stop just across the road where 9s go to Newport and 4s to East Cowes and the Red Funnel ferries to / from Southampton. Other buses go from the town itself, there's the Island Line railway and hovercrafts to / from Portsmouth. The hotel doesn't do evening meals but there are plenty of places to eat in the town. - Mr Dougal B
I decided to have a couple of nights here. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was ok, but the bed was extremely comfortable and warm . A good selection of cereals for breakfast or a cooked breakfast if ordered. A very nice stay . Thank you - gerard a
I stay at the Dorset once a year for Ryde carnival weekend. Room is comfy, cooked breakfast is great and the staff always friendly. Only small issue is that the shower in the room I usually stay in is a bit temperamental and its difficult to set the optimum temperature. But other than that, another great stay. - Phil L
