Apart from swimming in the sea, Ryde has a well appointed swimming pool. The Waterside Pool is open all year and has facilities for everyone, from toddlers to 50+ groups, offering activities that include casual swimming, snorkelling, aquafit classes, swimming lessons and pool lifeguard training.

The full route is 24 miles long through some of the Southern

19th June 2009 - JP Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Yacht Race
This is sailing’s answer to the London Marathon as 1600 boats, crewed by some of the biggest names in sailing as well as keen amateur sailors, skim past The Needles, the Island’s distinctive rocky structure, round St Catherine’s Point and Bembridge Ledge and back into the Solent. Watch the yachts round the Needles rocks and enjoy a hearty breakfast in the Needles Old Battery Café

20 June - BRADING 10K ROAD RACE

The venue, Smallbrook Stadium, is 3km (1.8 Miles) from Ryde Esplanade.  Transport will be provided from Ryde Esplanade Bus Station, connecting with the 8.45am and 9.15am Wightlink Portsmouth/Ryde Catamaran sailings only. Times should be confirmed by phoning Wightlink on 0871 376 1000. A connecting bus will convey runners from the Esplanade Bus Station (NOT FROM RYDE ST. JOHNS ROAD STATION) to Smallbrook, return fare £2.00.
The most direct route to walk is Union Street, High Street, Swanmore Road, then turn left onto Ashey Road and onto Smallbrook Stadium, see map.

20 June - JP Morgan Fleming Round the Island Yacht Race 2010 - 7:30am Isle of Wight 

The annual J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race, organised by the Island Sailing Club, is one of the most popular fixtures on the Solent racing calendar. Competitors come from Europe and the USA, as well as all over the UK, to follow the 50 mile course round the Isle of Wight.

Starting on the famous Royal Yacht Squadron line in Cowes, the fleet races westabout, to The Needles, round St Catherine's Point and Bembridge Ledge buoy back into the Solent.

Over the weekend of 17 and 18 July Fort Victoria will be transformed into Nassau Town in the Carribean in 1718, complete with townsfolk and the arrival of British militia to bring an end to piracy! The 'town' will be occupied by both civilians and a great many pirates. Over the two days, events will occur in real-time for you to observe!

Cowes - The Cowes carnivals are a number of events held in Cowes, on the Isle of Wight just 3 miles off the coast of southern England. Cowes is a small but well known sailing town, famous for its sailing events such as Cowes Week and the Americas Cup which attract people from around the world. Our carnivals are held numerous times throughout the year and we also enter many of the other carnivals around the Island. Our float is based on our carnival queens who are picked each year, with a different theme. Recent themes have included strawberrys and cream, indian summer, the ocean and of course in 2008 the 'Egyptian Queens'.

21 August - Ryde Carnival

Through the months of summer, for the amusement and entertainment of ourselves and our guests, the Isle of Wight last year staged over twenty carnivals in towns and villages around the island. The carnival season culminates with what we like to think of as the Ultimate Isle of Wight Carnival at Ryde, featuring over 2,000 performers from carnival clubs around the Isle of Wight . This is a sensory feast of sound, with musical influences from Rio Samba, Trinidad Steel Pan and Local bands. Movement in fabulous costumes with influences from Trinidad, Rio, Notting Hill, Venice, English Masquerade and Mardi Gras. Colour an experience like no other! Cowes Powerboat Classic 25th - 30th August 2010
Following previous years great success, the BPRC are pleased to announce that The Cowes Classic 2010 will include not only Marathon Boats but V24, Honda and Class 3 to join us in this great weekend of Powerboat Racing.

Cowes Torquay Cowes 2010 Course
The Cowes-Torquay-Cowes is an open event, organised in association with the British Powerboat Racing Club (BPRC) with around 80 craft expected to participate. The boats start and finish in Cowes and the front-runners are expected to complete the course in less than four hours - weather permitting. The Cowes-Torquay-Cowes was the very first offshore race in Europe and is recognised as one of the toughest challenges in world power boating, comparable with the Indy 500 and 24 Hours of Le Mans.





BESTIVAL 9th-12th SEPTEMBER 2010

Sunday Best presents Bestival, a multi award-winning 3-day boutique music festival, curated by BBC Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank and set in the leafy surrounds of Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight. It’s the sure-fire best way to round off the summer festival season.

Rob da Bank has made his first announcement of acts that will be performing at this year’s event. They include Dizzee Rascal, Flaming Lips, Hot Chip, Rolf Harris, Chase & Status, Ellie Goulding and Simian Mobile Disco.

16 - 19 September 2010 - Little Britain Challenge Cup Regatta
The LBCC is the largest annual, construction industry yachting regatta in Europe, with over 250 yachts taking part and over 3000 people racing. The event is run by and for the construction industry and teams comprise contractors, property developers, architects and engineers

 

18th & 19th September - Isle of Wight International Charity Classic Car Show  

This two day event based at Newport Quay and Eastern Gardens Ryde on 18 - 19 September is now in it’s ninth year the Isle of Wight International Charity ‘Classic Car Show’ is one of the largest and most popular shows in the South of England. This years event is expected to exceed all previous events both in attendance and the variety of vehicles on display.

All types of vehicle categories from veterans, vintage, classic eras through to the custom and retro cars and motorcycles and not forgetting the specialist military and commercial classes.

18 - 26 September 2010
Rides vary from pleasant meanders through pretty villages to Cycle the Wight, a 70-mile road route around the Island’s spectacular coastline. The festival kicks-off in Newport with a day of family entertainment, including the hilarious Sink or Swim. Watch from the riverbank as homemade pedal-powered crafts attempt to make it across the River Medina without getting
